NatWest current Account

Like all the big banks, NatWest offers a basic current account along with a host of others with additional benefits for a fee.

NatWest's Step account is a day-to-day current account without an overdraft facility. The Current Plus Account has a £100 interest-free overdraft facility, with any authorised overdraft also interest-free for the first six months. If you are regularly overdrawn, this buffer zone can be useful.

Paying a monthly fee gives you access to the NatWest Advantage Blue account. Customers choosing this option can either take mobile phone insurance or car breakdown cover with their current accounts. Among other included benefits are discounts on cinema trips, concerts and rail journeys and car insurance.

The Advantage Gold account costs a slightly higher monthly fee but benefits include getting tailored rates on loans, savings and overdraft rates. Plus mobile phone cover, 5 star worldwide annual family travel insurance and car breakdown cover.

The most expensive packaged account on offer is the Advantage Private account, although this is only available to NatWest's private banking customers.

Alongside a range of discounts and inclusive travel and car breakdown cover, this account comes with preferential rates and discounts on banking products and services. It also offers specialist services, such as tax and will writing.

All NatWest's current accounts pay only nominal interest on credit balances although a slightly higher interest rate is offered by the Advantage Private account. As an incentive to take out the student account, a free young persons' railcard is on offer, saving 1/3 off most train journeys.
