While its Classic current account pays only nominal interest on credit balances, this rises substantially on its Premier Plus Current Account, with a high monthly fee.

If you put £1,000 into your current account every month, you can benefit from Classic Plus, paying the same interest rate on credit balances as Lloyds TSB's, Premier account.

Paying a fee for an account with Lloyds TSB gives you access to additional benefits such as worldwide travel Insurance, car breakdown cover and mobile phone insurance. For example, the Premier account includes home emergency cover, travel insurance, and identity theft protection, along with preferential overdraft tiers and rates.

There are also accounts tailored to the needs of students, graduates and young people. The student account has a £1,500 interest-free overdraft. Lloyds TSB will pay a financial incentive, give a year's free mobile phone insurance and free NUS Extra Card for a range of discounts if you are to take out a student account.

The Lloyds TSB graduate account offers an interest-free overdraft of up to £2,000 in the first year after graduation, £1,500 in the second year and £1,000 in the third year, and access to graduate loans.
