Women savers increasing
The number of women who say that they are in the mood to save money has increased steadily over the last two years, according to Legal & General's money mood survey.
Latest survey results also revealed that the number of men looking for the
best savings rates for their money has decreased over the same period.
The number of women looking to save their money has increased from 59 per cent at the beginning of 2009 to 64 per cent at the current time, whereas the number of men saving has dropped three per cent to 56 per cent in the same period.
Mark Gregory, Legal & General executive director of savings, said that the survey revealed that the mood of the nation was definitely to save rather than spend money.
He added: "Women are clearly the driving force in maintaining the saving habit in most households. The focus of saving appears to be more about meeting short term needs such as paying households bills and more immediate concerns such as saving in case you lose your job."
The research also reveals that saving for one off purchases such as cars, houses and weddings are at the bottom of many people's lists of what they are saving for.
