Women 'keener than men to save at present'

Women \'keener than men to save at present\'
A new study has suggested that women are particularly keen to put money away at present, while male sentiment towards saving appears to be on the decline.

Research conducted by Legal & General indicates that 63 per cent of female consumers are currently looking to save, compared to 59 per cent 12 months ago.

However, the number of males storing cash fell slightly from 59 to 58 per cent over the course of the year.

At the same time, 28 per cent of men surveyed said they were now looking to spend, up from 23 per cent in 2009.

Claire Evans, Legal & General Unit Trust's marketing director, claimed that investing for a rainy day has "never been more important than now".

"The rollout of the increase in Isa allowances across all ages from April means that we can now save up to £10,200 per year in a stocks and shares Isa," she commented.

"This could mean that by putting money in an Isa, it will now be able to cover a wide range of savings needs."

Last week, Jasmine Birtles, founder of Moneymagpie.com, proposed that women are far better at managing the household finances than their male counterparts.ADNFCR-2088-ID-19683626-ADNFCR
