Van drivers warned of new tool theft

Van drivers warned of new tool theft
Van drivers in the UK have been warned about leaving new tools on display in their vans.

According to car, van and motorhome insurance provider Swinton, tradesmen should be wary of leaving anything in their vehicles overnight, especially new equipment.

The company, which is the UK's leading provider of commercial vehicle insurance, said there was a 13 per cent rise in the number of claims in January of this year.

Swinton believes the sharp rise was a result of attempted thefts of brand new tools bought by van owners over the festive season.

The company has called on commercial vehicle policy holders to empty their motors of both new and old equipment before locking them up.

The firm has also suggested taking out additional cover so that in the event of a theft, equipment can be replaced quickly and easily.

Earlier this month, Sue Longthorn, managing director of Admiral, warned people not to leave valuables on display in their cars as they are at risk from opportunistic thieves. ADNFCR-2088-ID-19522874-ADNFCR
