Van drivers urged to service their vehicles

Van drivers urged to service their vehicles
Van drivers should ensure they regularly check over their vehicle to ensure it is roadworthy, according to one insurance provider.

Autoquake says it is essential to check the oil level once a week, as allowing this to run too low can cause hundreds or even thousands of pounds of damage to the engine.

The firm also advises drivers to check the tyre pressure, noting that a properly inflated tyre will last longer, grip better and make the van more economical.

According to Autoquake, there should be at least 1.6mm of tread across the middle three-quarters of the tyre.

Sending the motor in for a garage service at regular intervals can also help reduce the risk of suffering an accident and help manage maintenance costs, it added.

Autoquake's founder, Fredrik Skantze, said: "These resolutions will save you money, keep you safe, or just make the roads a nicer place in 2010."

Last week, van insurance provider Swinton warned drivers against leaving tools on display in their vehicles, claiming that the number of thefts has increased during the recession.ADNFCR-2088-ID-19535110-ADNFCR
