Van drivers 'not exchanging required information after accident'
Many British van drivers fail to exchange the correct information when they are involved in a collision with another vehicle, it has been claimed.
According to Swinton Commercial, as many as 45 per cent neglect to get the full name, address, mobile and home telephone numbers of other parties involved in the accident, as well as their insurance details.
Swinton Commercial questioned 1,200 van insurance customers about the issue and found that 15 per cent have even failed to take down the license plate number of the other vehicle.
The firm warned that failing to take down a number plate could make tracing a vehicle impossible and potentially invalidate a claim.
Phil Moss, commercial vehicle manager at Swinton van insurance said: "Vehicle collisions can be very traumatic and the stress of the situation means people fail to take down the required information. [But] it's important that you take down all the details of the other driver."
Recently Axa launched a car insurance iPhone app that reminds people what information they need to gather following an accident.
