Van drivers 'must inform insurer of modifications'
Van drivers have been warned against modifying their vehicles without informing their insurer.
A failure to declare changes to the van may result in invalidation of the insurance policy, according to UK cover provider Swinton.
The firm explained that modifications may affect a customer's van insurance premium, so they must be communicated in order for a revised quote to be drawn up.
Phil Moss, commercial vehicle manager at Swinton Commercial, said improvements to performance are "less likely" to affect van insurance premiums when compared to car insurance, but it is still vital to contact the insurer.
"We would also advise van drivers protect their vehicle with a tracker device which can often reduce van insurance quotes and premiums," he stated.
Last week, Swinton Commercial reported that up to 45 per cent of van drivers who are involved in road accidents fail to exchange all the necessary information with the other party.
