Snow and ice 'continuing to cause insurance claims'
A further surge in car insurance claims was witnessed yesterday December 21st as the UK continued to experience blizzard conditions.
Back on Friday December 19th, the AA reported that it had handled more than 100 claims before lunchtime, but as the new week commenced, there was no respite in the number of calls received by the cover provider.
By 17:00 GMT yesterday, the firm had received over 500 claims, almost twice the number expected on a normal winter Monday.
Snow and ice on the roads aligned to the fact that Monday was the shortest day of the year created hazardous conditions for motorists up and down the country, the AA said.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, says: "Fortunately, most accidents are at a relatively slow speed so we're not getting reports of injuries. But an accident is always distressing and on ice can be very frightening.
"Our roadside patrols are reporting their busiest day for years, with over 16,000 calls taken by 15:00 GMT today."
