Scrappage scheme 'can benefit van drivers'

Scrappage scheme \'can benefit van drivers\'
Van drivers may be able to benefit from the government's extended scrappage scheme, it has been reported.

Writing for the Liverpool Daily Echo, Damien Porter noted that it is not just car drivers who can receive a £2,000 bonus when they trade old models in for a new equivalent.

He said owners of light commercial vehicles have the opportunity "to trade-in their old workhorse" and reduce the price of a new van.

Mr Porter explained that a recent change in the scrappage scheme rules means van models as new as eight years old qualify for the trade-in.

Such vehicles, weighing up to 3,500kg, can qualify for the discount providing they were registered before March 2002.

Vehicles must have been registered in the current owner's name for at least 12 months prior to being scrapped, Mr Porter added, while tax, insurance and MOT documentation are all required.

Earlier this week, van insurance customers were warned against leaving tools on display in their vehicles.

Swinton Insurance said there was a 13 per cent rise in the number of claims made in January of this year, with the increase in theft attempts potentially linked to the number of new tools bought over the Christmas period.ADNFCR-2088-ID-19527947-ADNFCR
