With the new car registration on 1st March now just weeks away, many motorists who bought a new car last March will now be now renewing their insurance and looking for an equally competitive premium. Likewise, you may be due to pick up a new car, in which case you should now be searching for insurance.
When looking for insurance for your new car it is worth checking firstly what premium your existing insurer will give you; although bear in mind that dependent upon your choice of vehicle your current insurer may no longer be the best as some insurers criteria means they will be competitive for performance cars, others will be not so competitive; so if you're changing from the average family hatchback to a brand new Porsche its worth shopping around to get the best possible premium.
If you bought a car last year then there's every possibility you were lucky enough to get 12 months free insurance, which many dealers offer from time to time, in which case check your renewal premium against the quotes you can obtain from other insurers by shopping around and see how this compares.
You may be looking for one of the many second hand bargains that are to be had around this time of year in which case again you may need to look around for a new insurance provider if your existing insurer no longer continues to be the best one for you and your new vehicle.
Additionally, if you're buying a 2nd hand car you may want to drive away on the same day, or not immediately cancel the policy on your current vehicle. In these cases you may want to consider taking out a short term motor insurance policy with companies such as Dayinsure who will offer temporary cover which is in addition to any other car insurance policy you may hold, that will allow you to drive away instantly and provide temporary cover for up to 28 days.
Whether you're getting the latest sports car, or upgrading your old and trusted saloon this spring it is worthwhile taking time out to check that you are still getting the best deal on your car insurance and if not then switch to a policy that gives you the same peace of mind for a competitive premium.
