Motorists reminded of liability laws

Motorists reminded of liability laws
Car, van and motorhome insurance customers have been reminded of the legal stance on road traffic accidents.

According to Accident Exchange, the question of who is at fault after an accident becomes a common one when the weather deteriorates – as it has done during and after the festive season.

However, the UK's largest prestige vehicle accident management specialist reminded motorists that the laws governing liability are very clear.

The firm's Lee Woodley said: "Just because the car in front slides on the snow or ice, and you end up hitting them too, the fault is still yours. They may have lost control, but so did you."

Mr Woodley pointed out that section 230 of the Highway Code specifically states that motorists should keep a safe a distance in bad weather as stopping distances can be ten times greater than on dry roads.

At the start of the year, Swiftcover noted that there is usually a 21 per cent rise in accident claims between the months of November and February due to bad weather.ADNFCR-2088-ID-19554593-ADNFCR
