Motor insurance news: Drivers warned of tyre failure risks

Motor insurance news: Drivers warned of tyre failure risks
Sliding out of control into a kerb can damage vehicle tyres and lead to premature wear, it has been reported.

Protyre – the UK independent tyre dealer network – has urged motorists to drive safely on slippery and icy roads over the festive period, and take precautions to avoid tyre failure.

It says the consequences of 'kerbing' include tyre and wheel misalignment, uneven wear and eventually tyre replacement.

The firms added: "In other cases the tyre sidewall can be pinched between the kerb and the wheel and air can leach from the tyre leading to severe under inflation.

"Motorists are also advised not to drive too close to kerbs for fear of running over debris not visible that could damage a tyre."

Protyre is urging drivers to regularly check the health of their vehicle tyres – something which could reduce the risk of accidents and prevent unnecessary car insurance claims.

Earlier this week, the AA reported that bad weather over the last week has led to a surge in motor insurance claims.ADNFCR-2088-ID-19529766-ADNFCR
