The Financial Services Compensation Scheme FSCS entitles savings customers protection for THE FIRST £50000 PER INSTITUTION - where institution is defined by a separate banking license held.

This list should be useful for savings & current account customers however please note there are further brand and trading styles to consider for credit cards loans and mortgages.
Offshore i.e international or channel islands bank accounts have been removed from this list as the position may differ compared to UK authorised firms. Also be aware that brands you may be familiar with in the UK could have a separate offshore branches so its wise to understand where your account is based. If you hold any of these types of accounts and are concerned about how safe your money is then in the first instance contact the provider directly and ask about their complaints and compensation arrangements.
