Men plan to save more than women

Men plan to save more than women
Accessing the best savings rates came third in a recent poll concerning Brits' new year's resolutions behind losing weight and getting fit.

Over half of the population are planning to put more money away in savings accounts in 2011, according to Lloyds TSB.

However, it is men that are looking to make major changes to their finances with 18 per cent hoping to save £200 a month, compared to over a third of women who are planning to save £50 a month.

The average UK male is aiming to save £1,349.04 compared to women looking to save £1,128.36 during the year and Lloyds TSB revealed that men will increase their savings pots by over £40 million more than women.

Greg Coughlan, head of savings at Lloyds TSB, said: "Despite women outnumbering men in the population stakes, it would seem that men are leading in the savings league by 20 per cent, as for every £1 women save, men save £1.20."

The recent HSBC Savings Map of Britain found that younger people are expected to save more than their older counterparts in 2011.
