Market Indices
Markets rose again last week; the US equity indices were further supported by encouraging economic and jobs data. Improving economic data was also experienced in the UK taking many by surprise as GDP figures for the final quarter of 2009 were revised upwards to 0.4%. Secondly; house prices showed a pick up in March and thirdly manufacturing saw a faster rate of growth than in any period since 1994.
The UK’s FTSE All Share opened the week at 2923.24, closing up 0.07% at 2943.86.
In the US, the Dow opened the week at 10849.23, closing at 10927.07, up 0.07%.
The Nikkei opened the week at 10909.98, closing on Friday at 11292.24, up 0.35%.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng opened the week at 21148.05, closing up 0.18% at 21537.00.
