Market Indices w/c 11/01/10 – 18/01/10


Having seen the markets generally rise as a whole of late, last week proved to be rather a mixed bag in terms of performance.

The recent positive upward momentum of the FTSE 100 faltered slightly, as the index closed down 1.43% at 5,455.37, having begun the week at 5,534.24. While the UK suffered a retreat, the US remained relatively flat, posting a very small loss of 0.08% over the week, closing down at 10,609.65 having opened at 10,618.19.  

Over in Asia, there was also a mixed bag in terms of performance. The Nikkei 225, which had opened the week at 10,798.32, rose 1.7% to finish up at 10,982.10.The Hang Seng closed the week at 21,654.16, a loss of 2.88% having started the week at 22,296.75.
