The impact the U.S economy has on the rest of the world remains key to sustainable global growth, for now. Last week’s downgrade of the health of the U.S economy by its Federal Reserve increased concerns over the strength of the global recovery. To try and maintain liquidity in the U.S economy without introducing another round of quantitative easing, the Federal Reserve took measures to keep money policy from tightening.
Loose monetary policy and a confident consumer is a significant element to keeping growth on track and with one of these components faltering, deflation or inflation could result. As markets get jittery once again investors should prepare for continued volatility for some time to come.
The UK’s FTSE All Share opened the week at 2781.37, closing down -2.32% at 2716.96.
In the U.S, the Dow opened the week at 10654.62, closing down -3.14% at 10320.33.
The Nikkei opened the week at 9535.51, closing down -3.37% at 9214.81.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng opened the week at 21640.53, closing down -2.53% at 21095.17.
