Market Report 06 July 2010

Market Indices
Overall last week was one of falling stock markets. Revised Chinese figures, mixed unemployment figures from the US, double dip concerns in the UK and finally further concerns over Europe all helped to drag the markets down.

The UK’s FTSE 100 index had begun last week just above the all important 5,000 level at 5,046.47 however, it suffered significant volatility throughout the week and finally closed down at 4,838.09 a loss of 4.13%.

In the U.S, the Dow faired no better, finally closing down at 9,686.48 a loss of 4.5% from its opening level of 10,143.81 and again below the key 10,000 level.

Of the four big key indices, the Nikkei 225 posted the biggest losses for the week with a drop of 5.56% to close out at 9,196.32 down from its opening level of 9,737.48.

And finally, the Hang Seng closed down at 19,905.32 having opened at 20,690.79, a loss of 3.8%.
