Market Indices
All of the attention this week within the UK will be firmly focused on the election on Thursday. The key issues being will there be a change of Government and if so, will there be an outright winner or are we heading for a hung parliament. Once the result is known, the media focus will then immediately turn to how the deficit will be tackled and whether or not the UK will receive a sovereign downgrade from the agencies.
In the UK, the FTSE100 index had begun the week at 5,723.65 but lost ground to finally close down at 5,553.29, a drop of 2.98%.
In the U.S, the Dow had opened the week at 11,204.28 but also gave up ground to close down 1.75% at 11,008.61.
The Nikkei finished the week up at 11,057.41, a rise of 1.31% having opened the week at 10,914.46.
Hong Kong’s Hang Seng closed down 0.64% at 21,108.59 from its opening weekly position of 21,244.49.
