M&S Car Insurance offers bad weather advice
Car, van and motorhome insurance provider M&S Car Insurance has warned motorists of the importance of pre-journey checks following the freezing weather of the past few weeks.
According to the firm, many people will be digging their cars out of the snow for the first time this week and they should be wary of poor road conditions as well as common maintenance issues.
David Wells, M&S head of insurance, said: "Motorists living in areas where roads are icy should heed police advice and not make unnecessary journeys.
"Before getting back into your vehicle clear all snow and ice, making sure that you have clear visibility. Also ensure that your vehicle is roadworthy, including checking the tyre conditions and that all lights are working."
The company claimed that checking anti-freeze levels, carrying de-icer and an ice scraper and ensuring tyres are properly inflated are all essential especially when a car has spent a long time sitting idle in the snow.
Last year, Co-operative Insurance called on motorists to only make journeys during the bad weather if they are absolutely necessary.
