mortgage rates to get onto the property ladder may need to act quickly as the housing market is showing signs of improvement.
Figures from the National Association of Estate Agents NAEA reveal that the housing market reached a six-month high in terms of demand from househunters.
The number of people registering with estate agents to buy property improved from an average of 227 in December to 252 in January; however, this is still down on January 2010's figure of 291.
Michael Jones, president of the NAEA, said: "It is encouraging to see activity levels begin to increase following the downturn we saw in December where bad weather and the Christmas festivities kept many househunters away."
However, he added that the market is still showing signs of consumer reluctance due to the VAT rise and interest rate pressures.
Leeds Building Society recently launched a brand new mortgage saver to help first-time buyers save for a house deposit.
