Home cooking 'is a great way to cut food budgets'

Home cooking \'is a great way to cut food budgets\'
Avoiding takeaways in favour of home-cooked food can be a great way to maximise the amount of money a family can put in an account with the best savings rates, it has been claimed.

Helena Oades, a nutritionist for Zeal Health, has highlighted the importance of planning the week's meals in advance.

She highlighted the fact that this can help minimise food waste, cutting the cost of uneaten ingredients, and reduce the risk of people buying takeaways because the cupboards are bare.

For those who tempted to buy ready-prepared meals, it is worth trying to recreate the same dishes at home, she claimed.

Ms Oades advised: "As tedious as it sounds, planning your week’s meals in advance is a great way to help prevent you having an empty fridge and an even emptier stomach that often makes you grab the takeaway menu."

In addition to boosting the savings account balance, avoiding takeaways in favour of home cooking can also have health benefits, with recent Local Government Association figures highlighting the high saturated fat and salt contents of this type of food.ADNFCR-2088-ID-800724339-ADNFCR
