Halifax reveals nation's top savers

Halifax reveals nation\'s top savers
Residents of Richmond upon Thames have the highest average savings balances in the UK, a new study has revealed.

Research from Halifax found that people in the London borough have an average of £29,765 held in accounts with good savings interest rates, 380 per cent higher than the average for London.

It also named Aberdeen, Putney, Edinburgh and Stanmore residents has big savers.

"The postal areas with the largest savings balances are in London, the South East and Scotland, with the neighbourhoods of Richmond upon Thames and Aberdeen streets ahead of the rest of the UK. However, the research also points to postal areas in Harrogate building their savings pots to rival those in the south," said Flavia Palacios Umana, head of Halifax savings products.

Another recent study by the Payments Council revealed that online banking has surged in popularity, with 25 per cent of UK adults claiming they view their internet accounts every day.ADNFCR-2088-ID-800552944-ADNFCR
