Halifax has no plans to restrict credit applications

Halifax has confirmed that it will continue to provide access to credit for both new and existing customers.

The firm made the announcement after Natwest changed the way it administers credit cards, with only current account holders now entitled to apply.

A spokesperson for Halifax stated the organisation had no plans to restrict such products to existing account holders.

He stated: "We have always been competitively priced, and we do tend to be a best-buy as well. That tends to be a driver of business.

"Our credit card products are all available to new and existing customers. We offer some zero per cent deals, so we have always tended to do fairly well in the past anyway."

Consumers with existing liabilities may wish to seek debt advice before gaining access to further credit streams.

According to Credit Action, total consumer credit lending to individuals at the end of July 2009 was £231 billion, with an average of £9,226 owed by each household in the UK.ADNFCR-2088-ID-19396880-ADNFCR
