Government urges better financial management in 2010

Government urges better financial management in 2010
Consumers should celebrate the New Year when it arrives, but then get down to the business of improving their personal finances, it has been claimed.

According to Directgov, the government's public services website, the start of January is the time to reflect on the year that has passed and make New Year's resolutions – with money matters at the centre of people's thoughts.

With just two months of 2009 remaining, the service has challenged consumers to be proactive next year – potentially by getting the best out of savings or seeking help with debt.

"Start the New Year by getting your finances in order and learn how to manage your money with free, confidential advice and support," Directgov urged.

The service added that consumers should be looking to budget more effectively – managing incomings and outgoings – while also educating themselves on saving and borrowing.

Earlier this week, pensions expert Stewart Ritchie called on Brits to revert to traditional savings habits in a bid to provide themselves with greater levels of financial security.ADNFCR-2088-ID-19444762-ADNFCR
