Financial happiness could cost as little as £6.75 a week

Financial happiness could cost as little as £6.75 a week
Research from Skipton Building Society has found that the average Brit scores just 4.3 out of ten on the financial happiness scale.

This worrying statistic highlights the discontent felt by many Brits who are looking for the best savings rates but are struggling to find access to them.

Skipton's report revealed that the average amount UK savers would like to save per month is £194 a month, £27 higher than the current average monthly savings of £167.

To bridge this gap it would require consumers to save an extra £6.75 a week, the equivalent of the cost of a daily chocolate bar.

Kris Brewster, head of products at Skipton Building Society, said: "Our research shows that having a savings safety net can indeed go a long way in bringing financial happiness to our lives."

He added that in the current economic climate it can be very difficult for people to keep up a regular savings habit.

Skipton showed its commitment to helping savers last month by introducing 12 different savings pots which help people focus on exactly what they are saving for.
