Extra care needed on roads during winter, says RAC
Van drivers and other motorists must take extra care on the roads this December, according to the RAC.
Commenting as the shortest day of the year December 21st approaches, RAC patrol ambassador of the year Prakesh Patel warned of the potential dangers faced on the roads during the winter.
He commented: "As the cold weather sets in, driving conditions are set to become even more dangerous, so car owners need to ensure their vehicle is maintained to a high standard."
He noted that during winter, the RAC witnesses "a real rise" in breakdowns due to faults that could largely have been avoided.
With this in mind, comments made by Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, appear even more alarming.
He recently suggested that many motorists were failing to take out breakdown cover policies in order to save money during the recession.
Such cover is "a very small price to pay" for a service that can protect motorists and their families when they are at their most vulnerable, he stated.
