East Midlands named Britain's best savers

East Midlands named Britain\'s best savers
People in the East Midlands are better at building up funds in accounts with the best savings interest rates, it has been revealed.

According to Standard Life, those from the region save around £172 per month to contribute to their pension, compared to a national average of £137.

However, people in the north east save the least with just £102, closely followed by the Scots with £110.

People aged 18-24 were found to have the fewest financial and personal commitments, amounting to just £458 a month, compared to people aged 35-44 who spend a monthly average of £1,160.

"Planning for a financially secure and happy retirement is just one example of this. It is vital that people engage with their personal finances and their emotional relationships, not as two separate commitments, but as one single entity," said Standard Life's John Lawson.

Meanwhile, new research by Santander has found that Britons are spending less on their other halves than they used to as a result of tightening their finances.ADNFCR-2088-ID-800734408-ADNFCR
