Drivers urged to check wheel alignment
Motorists should take care to ensure their wheels are properly aligned at all times, it has been claimed.
TyreSafe, the tyre safety organisation, says this task is necessary to avoid any additional vehicle damage and expense caused by driving over potholes.
A vehicle's steering and suspension geometries can be altered by blemishes in the road surface, the firm notes, while critical vehicle safety components can also be damaged.
Stuart Jackson, chairman at TyreSafe, said the recent bad weather will have caused an increase in the number of potholes on UK roads, raising a number of serious safety issues for drivers.
He added: "If a car's wheels are not correctly aligned, it may pull to one side or cause vibrations in the steering wheel which can be distracting and make the vehicle difficult to control.
"By visiting your local garage or tyre dealer they will be able to perform some simple checks to make sure the wheels are correctly aligned, helping you to stay safe."
Earlier this week, Servicing Stop urged car and van insurance customers to ensure they maintain the condition of their vehicles as winter progresses.
