Drivers 'should not leave valuables in their cars'
Motorists should avoid leaving expensive items in their cars when they park them, it has been claimed.
According to Sue Longthorn, managing director at Admiral, too many people are "happy" to leave valuable objects on display in their vehicles while unoccupied.
She suggested that this was playing with fire, as "it only takes seconds for an opportunistic car thief to break a car window and grab what's inside".
Ms Longthorn commented: "At this time of year, people will often leave their Christmas shopping on show on the back seat of their car.
"For a criminal this is an open invitation. Think how heartbroken you would be if you had your presents stolen."
She added that the best option is to "not put temptation in the way of the car criminal".
Last week, Adrian Flux Insurance Services claimed that young motorists may be able to access cheaper car insurance.
The firm advised comparing quotes from insurers prior to purchase, highlighting the benefits of using comparison services.
