Drivers 'lack knowledge over accident responses'

Drivers \'lack knowledge over accident responses\'
Just a third of drivers admit to knowing what to do should they be involved in an accident, it has been reported.

AXA Insurance says there is a lack of knowledge among UK drivers when it comes to dealing with the aftermath of such a road incident.

Some 27 per cent would not think to swap name, address and phone numbers with the other driver or take down their registration plate, the firm found.

In addition, 13 per cent said they would apologise to the other driver – something insurance firms advise against – and another five per cent said they would automatically blame the other party.

Simon Clayden, head of IT innovation at AXA, said: "Having an accident, however minor, can be traumatic and it is clear that many drivers really don't know what they should do if they are in this situation.

"And even those who do can forget vital information at such a stressful time."

Drivers should at least ensure they are covered by the appropriate car insurance, especially with the AA reporting a recent surge in claims due to the bad weather this week.ADNFCR-2088-ID-19529764-ADNFCR
