Drivers 'can reduce car insurance costs'
Despite many factors remaining out of drivers' control, there are several ways to curb the rising costs of insurance premiums, it has been claimed.
Neil Greig, director of policy and research at the Institute of Advanced Motorists, said that when buying a car, motorists should perhaps look for one in a lower insurance bracket.
"Most new cars will display this in documentation before you buy. Also you can take advanced driver training which will be recognised by insurers," he said.
The average national premium now stands at £564.69 almost a 20 per cent rise on the same figure from last year, according to research from Consumer Intelligence.
Mr Greig added that security precautions such as having a garage and an alarm system can also help lower premiums.
"With the more expensive [car] models, make sure they are fitted with a Thatcham alarm - the research body that sets the standard for car alarms," he stated.
