Does the Government Give Debt Advice?

NULL

Many people are simply unaware that the Government does indeed provide debt advice to people who have got themselves into difficulty and need debt advice, to be able to sort out their finances and get back on track.

The Government provides debt advice in different ways. It has a generic website that contains information about various issues that people may find helpful, which is the ‘direct’ Government website and this site gives some good information about debt, how to get out of debt and managing money.

But this is not the only way that the Government provides free debt advice. In addition, it helps to fund various debt agencies and debt lines, that will help people start to gain control of their financial matters and debt advice is the first starting point for this.

The Government provides debt advice because debt is a serious issue in the UK and it has just got a whole lot worse! Millions of people are in debt, with the credit crunch proving the final nail in the coffin for many people who have been seriously hit by it. Suddenly credit started to dry up and people found that they were being asked to pay back money and they simply found that this was impossible. Then debts start to escalate and interest rates in terms of credit were and are still fairly high, so people started to struggle financially.

Estimates vary as to the real levels of debt in the UK, but some organisations say that the population as a whole owes some £30,000 per person and that figure could well be rising. In effect this makes the UK over reliant on credit and the Government has responded by making sure that the existing Government debt advice on offer has been increased and that debt advice is now on offer from a variety of different sources, many of which are directly funded or sponsored by the Government
