December 19th 'the worst day for motor insurance claims'
Motorhome insurance customers must be on their guard on December 19th, as it is the worst day of the year for claims, it has been reported.
According to Virgin Money Car Insurance, the number of calls received by insurance firms rises by 40 per cent on this date.
The firm explains that the increase is due to the late Christmas shopping rush - with more drivers taking to their vehicles as they head to the shops.
By contrast, Christmas Day and Boxing Day are reported to be the two safest days of the year to be on the roads.
Grant Bather, a spokesman at Virgin Money, said: "Christmas is a time for giving but maybe drivers should be giving the car a miss on December 19th if they want to keep their no-claims bonus.
"With more drivers on the road and cars potentially loaded up with presents, it can be a dangerous time for claims."
Caravan Wise reports that
cheap motorhome insurance is often available, given that the drivers of such vehicles are less likely to be on busy roads at peak times than other motorists.
