Credit card customers warned of cyber scams
According to internet security firm McAfee, there are a number of risks credit card users need to be aware of in the run up to Christmas.
In its report, 12 Scams of Christmas, the firm warns consumers that criminals may try to steal their personal details through social networking sites, Christmas e-cards containing viruses and false "work from home" schemes.
However, the top scam facing credit card users this Christmas is fraudsters sending them phishing emails claiming to be from a charity.
Jeff Green, senior vice-president of McAfee Labs, said: "Cybercriminals use their best schemes during the holidays to steal people's money, credit card information, social security number and identity.
"These thieves follow seasonal trends and create holiday-related websites, scams and other convincing e-mails that can trick even the most cautious users."
Today November 30th is widely regarded as Cyber Monday, the day when most online shoppers will be making Christmas purchases.
