Cash strapped and heading for the USA?

Cash-strapped students planning to pursue a course of post-graduate study in the USA or Canada can gain a significant financial advantage by applying for an Educational Scholarship through BUNAC, a long-established organisation specialising in overseas work and study programmes.

BUNAC's Educational Scholarship Trust BEST will be distributing a total of 50,000 worth of awards for the 2007/08 academic year, to help deserving applicants take full advantage of their overseas studies and enjoy first-hand experience of North American life.

BEST scholarships are open to UK citizens who have, at some point during the last five years, been in full-time higher education at a UK college or university and who have already applied for a postgraduate course in North America for 2007/08. There are no restrictions on the type of course choices, in previous years these have ranged from legal studies to film-making. However, at the judging stage, preference is given to applicants whose studies are most likely to further transatlantic understanding, or to those who need to go to the USA or Canada for a specific course.

Individual awards typically range between 5,000 and 10,000 and are designed as top-up funds to help cover study, living and travel costs so candidates should actively seek funding from other sources. Two specific awards of 4,000 for sports-related studies and 2,000 for a teaching or geography-related course are also available.

The application deadline for 2007/08 awards is March 16th; short-listed applicants will be invited to attend an interview in London in June.

For further information, visit www.bunac.org/uk/awards, email scholarships@bunac.org.uk or call 020 7251 3472.

An Application Pack can be downloaded from the BUNAC website and submitted along with an academic and a personal reference.
