Caravanning 'booming in the UK'
The recession has led to a resurgence in camping and caravanning in the UK, it has been claimed.
According to Jon Dale, spokesperson for The Camping and Caravanning Club, people have not had the disposable income to go on expensive foreign holidays over the last couple of years, meaning they have been looking for domestic alternatives.
He suggested that people are happier paying a small fee for a caravan, tent or motorhome pitch for the night than meeting hotel costs.
Mr Dale stated: "People just enjoy getting out and about in the countryside and making the most of the local amenities and facilities.
"One of the main things as well is the freedom and flexibility you get with camping and caravanning you're not tied to anywhere in particular, you use the site as a base and then you can go round and explore as and when you want."
Caravan Wise recently said that because motorhome drivers rarely travel on busy roads at peak times, they may be able to access the best motor insurance deals.
