Brits increase their wedding gift spending

Brits increase their wedding gift spending
Despite the current climate, Brits have banished thrifty gifts from weddings, those looking for the best savings rates were told.

A study by Santander Credit Cards revealed that people in the UK are spending more on wedding presents than they did two years ago, with the amount spent on close family members more than doubling.

According to the research, Brits now spend an average of £78 on a present, with the figure rising to £131 for close relatives.

However, despite this increase, 15 per cent of those surveyed are trying to reduce the amount they spend on weddings, with 21 per cent claiming to feel obliged to part with more money than they would like.

"Weddings can be hugely expensive for guests if you have to factor in a stag or hen weekend, transport and accommodation, but their gift-giving generosity seems to be greater than ever," said Rob Holt, director of Santander Cards.

Recent research from Scottish Widows revealed that people are unwilling to discuss finances, with only 28 per cent of Brits talking to family members about money.ADNFCR-2088-ID-800634258-ADNFCR
