Breakdown insurance 'an essential product'
Drivers who fail to include breakdown cover on their insurance policy may live to regret their decision, one industry expert has claimed.
Gavin Hill-Smith, a spokesperson for the AA, told the Daily Mail that many families have looked to reduce the amount they spend on insurance due to the recession, but breakdown cover should be treated as essential.
He claimed that although the product has the potential to save motorists significant amounts of money, it is only ever appreciated when used.
"Once a motorist has had a breakdown late at night or in the cold they see the value," Mr Hill-Smith told the news provider.
"Call-out charges if you break down without insurance can be high - as much as £90 from a local garage and up to £150 for a tow off the motorway."
Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at esure car insurance, recently claimed that drivers take risks by ignoring breakdown cover.
