Barclaycard offers support to flood-hit Cumbrians

Credit card company Barclaycard has announced it is taking steps to support flood-hit Cumbrians in Cockermouth and Workington.

The company said it appreciates that its customers are experiencing problems when it comes to receiving mail and using internet services, making it difficult for them to make their payments on time.

Amer Sajed, chief executive of Barclaycard UK's Business and International operation, said: "We will take a sympathetic approach to any customer who has been affected, and ask them to contact us as soon as they can to discuss how we can help."

The company will not charge businesses in the region for the use of Barclaycard Payment Acceptance, which has a monthly terminal rental and minimum billing levy.

Barclaycard said the credit card offers will remain in place for three months.

Recently, Barclaycard reduced its minimum credit card payment to offer its consumers "breathing space" during the current economic downturn.
