Abbey named UK's best bank

Abbey named UK\'s best bank
High street financial institution Abbey has been named the UK's best bank for the second year running.

It picked up the accolade at the recent Euromoney Awards for Excellence after being selected by the magazine's editors.

During a successful night for the Santander Group, which is made up of Abbey, Bradford and Bingley and Alliance and Leicester, it also scooped the prizes for Best Bank in Western Europe, Best Bank in Spain, Chile and Portugal and Best in Project Finance in Latin America at the ceremony.

Antonio Horta-Osorio, chief executive of Santander's UK Businesses, said: "When we won the award last year it clearly demonstrated the progress we've made in transforming Abbey. To maintain this progress, complete two major acquisitions and deliver outstanding financial results despite the most difficult of market conditions, is even more pleasing."

Other winners on the night included HSBC, which was named Best Global Bank.
