AA welcomes electronic insurance decision

AA welcomes electronic insurance decision
Motorhome insurance provider the AA has welcomed the government's response to calls for the insurance sector to be allowed to issue electronic insurance certificates.

Speaking at the ABI motor conference on Tuesday, transport minister Paul Clark announced that the necessary legislation was being rushed through parliament.

Electronic insurance certificates will be made legal from April of next year.

Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, claimed the introduction of electronic insurance certificates was common sense.

He added: "There has been a lengthy consultation period but solutions have been found to most of the security difficulties involved.

"In fact, the certificate is simply tangible evidence that the Motor Insurance Database has been updated and in most cases, police can confirm that a car is insured and tax discs can be applied for without the certificate."

Recent research conducted by the AA showed that drivers in Merseyside are worst affected by a condition dubbed 'motorway phobia', where motorists avoid using motorways.ADNFCR-2088-ID-19480757-ADNFCR
