Halifax has announced details of its Student Current Account for the academic year 2007/08; the account continuing to offer an interest-free overdraft of up to £2,750 from year 1 of study. Once new students have their offer of a place at university they can apply for the account; existing students can also switch to Halifax and take advantage of the interest-free overdraft.
In addition to the free overdraft facility the account also offers 2.02% AER interest when you're in credit, as well as a 10% discount on Halifax's World Explorer Travel Insurance, commission-free travellers cheques and foreign currency, 20% Cardcare discount (If lost or stolen Cardcare will cancel and automatically re-order all your missing financial cards, it also covers lost cash and the cost of replacing your driving license if it is lost with your cards), a 25% discount on AA breakdown cover and fee-free American Express Travellers Cheque Card (normally £20).
Also available is online and telephone banking plus the option to receive your statements online and an interest free overdraft that continues for one year after graduation.
