Barclaycard has announced the launch of Barclaycard Breathe, a new credit card which aims to help consumers play their part in the fight against climate change by offering a range of discounts and low rates to promote greener spending.
In addition to offering customers savings, Barclaycard Breathe will also donate 50% of its profits to fund environmental projects around the world, the first credit card to do this.
Donations will be made to PURE, the Clean Planet Trust. PURE is a UK charity and works to combat climate change by investing in low energy projects. Barclaycard Breathe will make a minimum £1 million donation to PURE in its first year.
The card, which will have a standard rate of 14.9%, has a number of deals to promote greener spending including: a 5.9% interest rate on rail and national bus purchases - the rate applies until the balance is repaid; up to £50 off cavity wall and loft insulation from British Gas; £25 off your energy costs from Ecotricity, 10% off all bikes at Halfords and up to 25% off Center Parcs holidays in the UK.
Also available is 20% off holidays at Eurocamp 'Green Key' holiday parks and 10% off Hertz Green Collection vehicle rentals and a 10% saving with Ecoelectricals.co.uk - the website selling only A rated energy efficient lighting and appliances.
