A tenant is someone who has the right to occupy property under the terms and conditions set out in a lease or rental agreement.
The tenant may be a person who pays rent to a landlord to occupy a flat for just a few months or in another context, a tenant may be a 'property owner' who holds a lease for (say) 100 years and pays ground rent to a freeholder
