Tax Office

Additional Services

The tax office is where your tax affairs are dealt with. It is operated by the Inland Revenue.

Your own tax office won't necessarily be located close to your home or place of work. For example, the role of dealing with PAYE tax affairs for tax districts in London is contracted out to offices in regional centres such as Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh. If you're self-employed however, it's likely your tax office is indeed local to you.

Your tax office is responsible for working out how much tax you should pay or, if you are using self-assessment, for checking your sums. The actual payment of the tax is the responsibility of the Collector of Taxes, another Inland Revenue department.

If you have a general enquiry or you need to get hold of one of the Inland Revenue's explanatory leaflets, you can access these publications on the Inland Revenue website or find the nearest tax office in the phone book under Inland Revenue.

If you have a specific query about your particular tax affairs it's always best to deal with your own tax office.
