Security Devices

Additional Services

Security devices are becoming more popular because motor insurers, like home and office contents insurers, are increasingly rewarding policyholders for taking crime prevention measures. Remember, if you're careless when leaving your car, your claim for theft may not be paid at all. Your insurance policy requires you to take care of your property at all times.

Possible precautions you can take are:

  • having your windows etched with the registration number of your car. This deters thieves
  • having a professionally-installed alarm fitted
  • having an immobiliser system installed

Many insurers allow special premium discounts if you take useful steps to discourage thieves; there is a growing list of devices designed to make your vehicle more secure.

The Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre (or Thatcham , as it's more commonly known) independently checks vehicle security devices to see if they comply with the criteria of the Insurance Industry Vehicle Security Scheme.
