Green Card

Additional Services

If you're taking your car abroad, you should ask your insurer before you leave for a 'green card'. This is a document which provides evidence that you have at least basic insurance cover in your home country, which, technically speaking, means you automatically have cover that is valid in all EU countries.

The green card is recognised by all countries who are members of the Green Card System. A green card is not a legal requirement to travel in these countries, nor is the card insurance cover in itself.

Nevertheless, it can be a useful document because it is readily recognisable by police and can save time and trouble if you need to produce evidence of insurance, e.g. if you are involved in an accident.
