Electronic share dealing. For the private investor in the London Stockmarket Big Bang 2 in October 1997 heralded the new age of computer-based trading.

From the private investors perspective there are two main types of order that you can ask your stockbroker to place

  • At best - At best deals are completed as soon as they are placed by the broker at the best price available on the order book at that time.
  • Limit Order - with limit orders you set the price you are prepared to buy or sell a given number of shares at and your order is dealt with as soon as there is a suitable deal to match it.
